How should we care for our child’s skin and nails?
Short answer
Healthy skin is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of complications from lymphoedema. Wash your child's skin every day using a gentle cleanser, dry it carefully—especially between the toes and fingers—and apply a moisturiser regularly to prevent dryness and cracking. Keep fingernails and toenails clean and neatly trimmed, but avoid cutting the cuticles. Check the skin every day for cuts, blisters, fungal infections or areas of irritation, and make sure shoes and compression garments fit properly to avoid rubbing or pressure.
